Credits are used in our newest premium product, Computer on Perplexity. Subscriptions will include a monthly credit allowance, with additional credits available to purchase as needed.
Credit pricing, task credit ranges, and included monthly allowances are subject to change, and may vary by promotion, region, or plan. We will update this page or your account settings if pricing changes.
Who gets credits?
Computer credits are available to Pro and Max subscribers, including Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max. Anyone with an active subscription can also purchase additional Computer credits as needed.
Consumer plans
Plan | Monthly credits | Limited-time bonus |
Pro | No monthly allocation | 4,000 credits (one-time) |
Max | 10,000 credits per month | 35,000 credits (one-time) |
Enterprise plans
For monthly credit amounts on Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max, see the Enterprise organizations member guide.
What are credits used for?
Credits are consumed when you use premium features that require significant compute, such as:
Computer — Perplexity's agentic digital worker that understands goals, gathers context, uses the right tools, and carries multi-step work forward across web, files, and connectors.
Additional premium features — New capabilities will use credits as they launch
Other features — Perplexity Ask and Perplexity Deep Research searches are not affected by credits.
Pricing, Renewals, and Purchases
The specific number of credits consumed depends on the complexity and resources required for each task.
You can check exact credits used for any thread via the overflow menu (three dots in the upper right corner) or at perplexity.ai/account/usage.
We may modify credit pricing, usage limits, and auto‑refill thresholds from time to time. Any changes will apply prospectively and will be communicated through the product or your account settings.
When do credits reset?
There are three types of credits: Monthly credits, Purchased credits, and Bonus credits.
Monthly credits (displayed as “Plan” credits)
Monthly credits refresh on your subscription billing cycle date. For monthly subscriptions, this is the same date each month. For annual subscriptions, your credits still refresh monthly on the same date you originally subscribed. Unused monthly credits do not roll over month to month.
Purchased credits
Purchased credits remain in your account until used or expire after 1 year of inactivity for usage based features.
Bonus Credits
Bonus credits are granted at Perplexity's sole discretion and expire at the respective date given when granted.
Note: Bonus credits are consumed first. If no bonus credits are available, monthly credits are consumed before purchased credits.
Credits are non-refundable, redeemable for cash, cannot be transferred, or sold. Credits cannot be used to pay for any products or services other than eligible Perplexity features and carry no value outside this platform.
What happens when I run out of credits?
Active tasks pause — In-progress Computer threads will be paused, not cancelled. Your progress is saved and the task will resume exactly where it left off once credits are available.
New tasks are blocked — You won't be able to start new credit-consuming tasks until credits are available.
Tasks resume automatically — Once you add credits or your monthly allowance resets, paused tasks pick back up on their own.
With auto-refill enabled, your account is topped up before you hit zero, so tasks continue without interruption.
Purchases
Auto-refill
Auto-refill automatically purchases credits when your balance drops below the plan specific threshold (500 credits for Pro, 2,500 credits for Max), so your tasks are never interrupted. When auto-refill kicks in, you're paying for additional usage as you go — your credits are not like a gift card balance or pre-paid card.
To enable it:
Toggle on Auto-refill
Configure:
Refill amount — Credits purchased each time. You can set whatever value you want here!
Monthly auto-refill limit — Maximum auto-refill spend per month (default: $200)
Note: Auto-refill is off by default. You will never be charged for credits without opting in first.
Spending limits
Every Max account has a monthly spending cap that limits the total amount you can be charged for credits in a billing period. The default cap is $200.
You can lower or raise this cap (up to $2,000) at any time in your credit settings. If you hit your spending cap:
Active tasks will pause
You'll see a notification with the option to increase your limit
No additional charges will be made until you update your settings
The auto-refill monthly limit and the account spending cap work together — whichever is lower takes effect first.
Payment method
If you purchased your subscription through the Perplexity website and used a credit or debit card, we will default to using that same card for any additional credit purchases you opt-into.
You can always switch your payment method to another credit or debit card for your credit purchases — it does not have to be the same one that you use for your subscription.
If you upgraded to Max through the iOS and Android app, you’ll need to add a credit or debit card through the website to use Computer.
If a payment fails, active tasks will pause and you'll receive an email. Most likely you need to update your payment method to resume.
Viewing your balance and usage
How do I check my credit balance and usage?
Account settings — Visit perplexity.ai/account/usage to see:
Your current balances of Bonus, Plan, and Purchased credits
Days until your next monthly refresh
Credit usage breakdown by type (text, image, video, audio) and by thread
Auto-refill and spending limit settings
Per-thread usage — Open the overflow menu (three dots) on any thread to see credits used.
Important: Credits are associated with your Perplexity account, are personal to your account, and cannot be transferred or assigned to other users or accounts, with the exception of limited circumstances for enterprise accounts.
What does a negative balance on my account or task in Computer mean?
A negative balance means the task required more credits than were available in your account.
How do I fix or clear a negative balance?
You can clear your negative balance by purchasing more credits here: https://www.perplexity.ai/account/usage.
Will I be charged automatically to cover a negative balance?
For those with a paid monthly subscription:
If you have a paid monthly subscription, your Plan credits for the next billing cycle will automatically cover any negative balance for the current task. However, this will reduce the number of credits available provided in the following month.
If your negative balance reaches the system’s limit before your next renewal, you’ll need to purchase additional credits to continue completing future tasks.
For those with a non-paid subscription:
If Auto-Refill is enabled, your account will be automatically charged based on your selected settings, so a negative balance should not appear.
If Auto-Refill is not enabled, you’ll need to purchase additional credits to complete the task.
To avoid interruptions in your use of Computer, please ensure your credit balance is up to date.
What happens if my payment method is declined?
If your payment method is declined, please update it on https://www.perplexity.ai/account/usage and try your credits purchase again.
Email notifications
What email notifications will I receive?
You'll receive emails for:
Credit purchase — Confirmation when auto-refill adds credits
Low balance — When credits are running low (if auto-refill is off)
Out of credits — When your balance hits zero and tasks are paused
Spending cap reached — When you've hit your monthly limit
Payment failed — When an auto-refill charge could not be processed
Frequently asked questions
Do monthly credits carry over?
No. Unused monthly credits expire at the end of each billing cycle.
Do purchased credits expire?
Yes. Credits purchased through auto-refill expire after one year of inactivity.
What happens to my credits if I cancel my subscription?
All credits — both monthly and purchased — are forfeited when your subscription ends and are not refundable, except where required by law.
Can Perplexity revoke my credits?
In limited cases, such as fraud, abuse, or other violations of our Terms of Service, Perplexity may suspend your account or revoke credits. We will not revoke credits solely because you use the product heavily within our policies.
Can I use credits on mobile?
Not yet. Mobile credit support is coming in a future update.
I'm a Pro subscriber. How do I get credits?
Pro subscribers receive a one-time, limited-time bonus of 4,000 Computer credits and can purchase additional credits from your credit settings. To receive a monthly allocation of 10,000 credits, upgrade to Max.
I was charged for credits I didn't authorize.
Check your credit settings to confirm whether auto-refill is enabled. If you believe there's an error, contact our support team.
